Spotlight on: Veterans Day 2011

On November 11 we remember and honor the contributions made to our nation by service members both past and present. One such veteran is MedThink partner Walt Clarke. Walt served in the U.S. Army as a second lieutenant and stinger platoon leader and then first lieutenant intelligence officer. He was stationed in Bitburg, Germany, and Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.

  • Why did you join the armed forces?
To serve my country and pay for college in the process.
  • What were you doing just before you joined the armed forces?
    Studying economics at Vanderbilt University.
  • What is your happiest memory of your military service?
I have too many happy memories to count, but I do remember many weekend trips to Luxembourg City with other junior officers.
  • What are you most proud of about your military service?
Being part of something bigger and more important than any individual.
  • What lesson(s) did you learn during your time in the military that you apply regularly
    at MedThink?

If you take good care of your troops, they'll take good care of you.

According to Walt, "Serving your country is about doing something difficult for the greater good, and this is special because most veterans aren't any different than anyone else. They're just normal people who have done extraordinary things."

Thank you Walt for the contribution made to our nation by your service. And thank you to all the men and women who serve and who have served in years past.
