Director of Social Media

Position Summary:

The Manager, Social Media & Public Relations functions as the primary agency representative to middle/senior level clients. Working as part of the public relations practice, he/she internally provides strategic leadership and counsel to account teams related to all aspects of social media. The Manager will be responsible for development and implementation of social media strategies and programming, ongoing client satisfaction, and developing opportunities through building and maintaining strong client relationships and identifying new business opportunities. This position will also lead MedThink's internal and external social media efforts, ensuring consistency of message. The manager will also help produce thought leader and perspective pieces to showcase MedThink's expertise in the area of social media. Traditional public relations responsibilities may be assigned based on client needs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 5 - 7+ years of proven, hands-on digital and social media experience, developing and implementing programs for pharmaceutical/healthcare companies and brands that have generated significant awareness with online communities
  • Demonstrate knowledge of best social media practices, emerging trends, and how to engage to reach client business objectives
  • Deep knowledge of current and emerging social media (e.g., blogs, blogging, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Wikipedia, etc.) and how to utilize/engage them to achieve business objectives
  • Experience in directing and launching pharmaceutical/healthcare social media initiatives
  • Experienced client counselor
  • Ability to guide and direct others (including clients) to develop and execute social media communications strategies
  • In-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical industry and experience working at a public relations and marketing agency
  • Ability to monitor online trends, social networks and communities and provide recommendations for proactive and reactive communications
  • Pharmaceutical/healthcare experience required; advertising or public relations agency experience preferred
  • Strong scientific acumen
  • Superior oral and written communications skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to motivate others and provide clear direction
  • Bachelor’s Degree

Position Responsibilities:

  • Serve as social media/digital resource and partner for Public Relations, Account Services, Creative Services, Media Services, Medical Communications, Promotional Communications and Digital Services team in creating and executing social media strategies.
    • Serve as primary driver/lead for all social media programming at MedThink.
  • In partnership with other MedThinkers, lead the development of MedThink’s social media strategy and have primary responsibility for its execution, ensuring consistency of messaging and timeliness of content.
  • Provide perspective and counsel on creative, functional, and measurable direction for social media programming, ensuring a strategic focus throughout the entire lifecycle of client programming/projects.
  • Continually identify and recommend new social media opportunities with both existing and prospective clients and promote MedThink’s social media/public relations capabilities.
  • Attend and participate in client presentations and new business meetings.
  • Keep abreast of client product/services/marketing developments, and read client industry trade journals and business publications to stay up-to-date on competitor activities.
  • Ensure social media goals, objectives, and metrics of success are clearly defined at the beginning of each client project.
  • Challenge clients and teams in the pursuit of appropriate and effective use of social media.
  • Work on RFP responses and new business presentations specific to social media/public relations.
  • Continue to grow MedThink social media capabilities and offerings to drive revenue growth.
  • Manage client budgets to ensure profitability.
  • Establish long-term, strategic partnerships with clients.
  • Maintain legal and regulatory knowledge/understanding and be able to apply based on individual client programs/strategies.

Participates in professional growth and development.

  • Attends Company sponsored in-services and/or continuing education.
  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations as necessary.
  • Attends industry conferences to further establish relationships and enhance MedThink expertise in social media space.

Participates in other activities:

  • Performs other job duties as assigned.
  • Cross trains in other positions as requested.
